Montessori Island House Ratzeburg
Until 2012, the premises we have been using since 2017 were part of the Ernst-Barlach Realschule (secondary school). Between 2015 and 2017, the premises were used as communal accommodation. Currently, the Inselhaus (Island House) provides space for 60 children aged three to six. The groups are diverse, and we have children from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds, which is a great asset for everyone. Everyone learns from each other and together.
The island house is open Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It closes for six weeks annually: one week over Easter, three weeks during the summer holidays, one week in autumn, and one week over the Christmas holidays.
The Island House features an indoor play area with raised garden beds cultivated by the children themselves, as well as a mud table for warm summer days. There is also a large outdoor play area with playground equipment and a soccer field, which is shared with the neighboring schools (Pestalozzi School and Free School). The Island House certainly lives up to its name. Centrally located in the heart of Ratzeburg, the house boasts a unique setting right on the lake. This fantastic location allows for regular excursions to the surrounding playgrounds and the easily accessible forests. The Island House also regularly hosts various projects, forest days, field trips, and celebrations.
